Swim Teacher Licence
Royal Life Saving offers a Swim Teacher Licence which meets industry standards.
The requirement to hold a valid Swim Teacher licence affirms your commitment to maintain currency in safety, ongoing professional development, industry standards of practice and behavioural guidelines. It also provides you with public liability and professional indemnity insurance cover, whilst working within a business.
Initial Swim Teacher Licence
Royal Life Saving SA will provide students that successfully complete the SISSS00132 Swimming and Water Safety Teacher Skillset with Royal Life Saving SA and meet the licence requirements with their initial Swim Teacher licence at no additional expense.
We would love to assist you if you hold the SISSS00132 Swimming and Water Safety Teacher Skillset through another Registered Training Organisation (RTO) but do not currently hold a Swim Teacher licence. Please contact us using the form below.

Renewing your Swim Teacher Licence
Royal Life Saving provides Swim Teachers with the opportunity to renew their licence. This Licence meets industry standards and is valid for 3 years from the date your renewal has been processed and is $150. You will be invoiced for the licence fee after the new Swim Teacher licence application has been approved.
This process can also be used if you wish to transfer your licence to
Royal Life Saving SA.

Licence Renewal Application Requirements:
You will receive an Application Form once you start your application to collect the below information.
Current SISSS00132 – Swimming and Water Safety Teacher Skillset or most recent superseded version of those units, regardless of whether deemed equivalent or non-equivalent.
This can be a skillset issued by Royal Life Saving or by another training provider.
Provide your current licence (both front and back) * if you hold a current Swim Teacher Licence.
Current HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Statement of Attainment
Current Working With Children Check (WWCC) – must be employment based, not a volunteer check
Provide evidence of Practical Teaching Hours and Professional Development
Minimum 40 teaching hours over 3 years
10 x PD points over 3 years
Provide verification of aquatic rescue ability (within previous 12 months)
The following awards will be accepted for verification:
Bronze Medallion (or Bronze Star/Bronze Cross)
Pool Lifeguard
Aquatic Rescue Award
Swim Teacher Rescue Award
Water Rescue Training Declaration, signed by your manager
