Swim and Survive provides learning pathways incorporating three programs (Wonder, Courage & Active) that provide child focused swimming and water safety education for each of the key life stages between 6 months and 14 years.

Learning swimming, survival and lifesaving skills is a lifelong process. Royal Life Saving recommends continuous participation and regular practice to develop and consolidate skills for a lifetime of fun and safe aquatic activity.

Swim and Survive levels are determined by age and skill. Children will be assessed on a number of skills, and graduate levels based on completed competencies. It is recommended to purchase and retain a Swim and Survive logbook to ensure guardians can follow the child’s progress and enrolments can therefore be managed correctly. Logbooks can be purchased via the enrolment page, or through the Instructor in Charge at your chosen location.

Wonder 6 months – 3 years (parent/guardian assisted) 30 minute lesson

Courage 3 years – 5 years 30 minute lesson

Active 5 years – 14 years 1 hour lesson

Further Information

WONDER

Wonder is the water familiarisation component of the Swim and Survive program, designed specifically for children aged 6 to 36 months.

Wonder is a child-centred program which is taught with parent or carer and child together in the water. Parents are an integral part of their child’s aquatic education by providing guidance and support through activities that provide for the development of water familiarisation, exploration and water safety skills.

Wonder uses songs, games and activities to teach children a variety of skills including entries, floating, breathing and movement.

COURAGE

Courage is the water confidence component of the Swim and Survive program, and is designed for children aged 3 to 5 years.

Courage is fundamental to the development of basic foundation skills in swimming, survival and water safety, as is a positive attitude towards learning these essential skills.

Swim and Survive Courage guides children through fun and safe activities, gradually building upon their breathing, floating and movement skills; supporting and encouraging independence. The Courage program progresses from initial parental participation to children developing trust and learning through interacting independently with the instructor.
